Not so useless cubby

I love my Chevy Avalanche. About the only thing I don't like about it is that stupid useless cubby hole just to the left of the instrument cluster.

I've never wanted to modify my truck but I've always wanted a GPS.

I tried a software version of a GPS that ran on my laptop and that was a pain.

Recently I bought a Tom Tom Navigator 5 Bluetooth that has software that runs on my Treo 650. I used a vent mount bracket to mount it right next to that useless cubby I was telling you about.

I've been using the Tom Tom for a couple of weeks and I love it.

The only problem I had was the while it's running it uses a lot of the Treo's battery so I use the car adapter for my Treo.

I also use the car adapter for the GPS antenna and that uses both the available 12V outlets in my Avalanche and I normally used one of those for my iPod.

Today I went to Pep Boys and bought a Bell model 39062-1 Dual Outlet. It comes with insulation displacement connectors and a piece velcro. It is fused with an in-line 10 amp fuse.

I took out the useless cubby and drilled a hole in the back of it large enough for the fuseholder to pass through.

Now my cubby is not so useless.
